An important application of peer mediation, one that I call "re-entry mediation," involves mediating between students who are returning to school after being suspended for fighting. My informal poll of programs indicates that anywhere from 15% to as many as 35% of the cases in successful peer mediation programs are re-entry mediations. These sessions provide a helpful service to students who otherwise might return to school without an opportunity to resolve the conflict that led to their suspension.…
